Ipswich is in line for a major public transport upgrade with new bus services targeting the region’s new growth corridors.
The Queensland Government announced a three-year, three-stage boost to services in Redbank Plains, Collingwood Park, Augustine Heights, Bellbird Park, Springfield, Deebing Heights and Karalee.
The changes are due to start in 2025 (see highlights below).
Connections to the trains and Ipswich Hospital, and between Browns Plains and Springfield, should improve with running hours to increase, the government says.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish says the new services will “significantly increase” easy access to buses for Ipswich residents.
“New buses in growth areas and improved connections with trains, shops, and the hospital will deliver services to growing and significant residential developments for the first time, increasing access to jobs, education and essential services,” he says.
“The bus improvement package will include service upgrades with greater frequency on existing services in the area and longer span of operating hours, including new and upgraded high-frequency peak services.”
A direct Springfield-Ipswich route (via Redbank Plains) will be introduced with better services to the Ripley Valley Priority Development Area, Ipswich Hospital and trains.
MP for Jordan Charis Mullen says new routes between Springfield and Ipswich, and connecting train services, will mean faster and more convenient travel.
MP for Ipswich Jennifer Howard says the changes are needed as Ipswich is one of the fastest-growing cities in South East Queensland.
“It’s critical we cater not only to recent growth but future growth as well,” she says.
MP for Bundamba Lance McCallum says the decision reflects the government’s commitment to public transport on top of the 50 cent fares scheme already introduced.
