A boom in screen production in Western Australia is fuelling filming demand for mansions, pubs and outback sites.
And the state’s non-profit Screenwest organisation is reaching out to the public for more possible sites to list in its online locations gallery.
Chief Executive Officer Rikki Lea Bestall says WA is home to historic locations, striking landscapes and unique attractions “that are sought-after by film production teams”.
“We are experiencing a significant uplift in screen production in WA, most notably in television and streaming platforms,” she says.
“We expect that will increase when the Perth Film Studios open in Malaga early next year, paving the way for more locations to be added to our database.”
Beastall says they are “always looking” for filming locations.
“Having a comprehensive locations gallery will help us to attract large scale projects to deliver social, cultural and economic outcomes to the state.”
She says York in the state’s wheatbelt has proven especially popular with its town hall building, Balladong Farm, Buckland Estate and close proximity to Perth.

The call-out comes as filming on Ghosts Australia wrapped up last week; it was shot on-location at Woodbridge House, near Midland, and in-studio in East Perth.
The show’s producer, Bree-Anne Sykes, says: “During our early development phase, Screenwest generously provided location scouting support for our creative team to source our hero location, Ramshead Manor.
“Nestled on the bank of the Swan River … the team quickly fell in love with Woodbridge House, an iconic location for our series.”
Anyone can nominate a location for the locations gallery. Screenwest says that a team reviews all listings to make sure they meet requirements.
