A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw has announced that she will be leaving after 17 years in the job, saying she’s not being pushed out the door but made the decision on her own.
Grimshaw broke the news live on Monday night at the end of the program where she said she wanted to reveal something before audiences found out from somewhere else.
“I’ve decided to finish up with A Current Affair this year,” she said.
“I want you to know that it’s been my decision alone and that I’m not being shoved out by the boys club because I’m too old.
“I’m not too old, I’m just a bit tired and for the record both the boys and girls have asked me to stay.”
The host went onto detail how she grew up watching the show when Mike Willesee was host, saying that she never would have believed that one day she’d sit in the same seat and hold it for 17 years.
“It has been a privilege to host this show,” she said.
“Thank you for your loyalty, I hope I have repaid it.”
The 62-year-old said that she would be “around until November then I’m going on holiday but its business as usual until then.”
She became host in 2006 after Ray Martin finished on the show but it has not yet been revealed who will take over from Grimshaw when she leaves in November.
Prior to A Current Affair she co-hosted Today for nine years, first with Steve Liebmann in 1996 and later in 2005 with Karl Stefanovic.
The current Today show host, paid tribute to Grimshaw saying that he found out about the news of her departure the same way as everyone else.
“She didn’t tell me she was leaving,” he said.
“What a legend. I started out on this show with her 18 years ago.
“She is the best in the business. I had the great fortune of working for her for a year and she was exceptional.”
