John Farnham’s wife has provided an update on the singer’s battle with cancer following revelations that he underwent surgery in August.
It was previously revealed that the 73-year-old underwent surgery for a cancerous growth but his wife Jill Farnham and the couples son Rob and James said he’s doing much better.
“John’s recovery from last month’s surgery for mouth cancer is progressing well,” they said in a statement.
“His medical team are very pleased with his progress over the past month. He was moved from ICU and into a general ward a couple of weeks ago. That in itself was terrific progress.”
According to several reports, the singer underwent 12 hours of surgery to have the growth removed but will now undergo rehab to help with his recovery.
“This week John has been transferred into a rehabilitation facility. Each of these steps means things are moving in the right direction and for that we are enormously thankful.
“Our family are so very grateful to all the remarkable teams of Victorian medical professionals who have taken such good care of John. These outcomes are a credit to your dedication, skills and compassion.”
They also offered thanks to his fans who have showered them with love.
“Being surrounded by this much love and support has meant the world to us all. Thank you.”
As the news of his diagnosis broke over a month ago, Farnham issued a statement detailing that it’s something a lot of people go through but that he was thankful to be receiving treatment in Australia.
“Cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day, and countless others have walked this path before me,” he said.
“The one thing I know for sure is that we have the very best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”
Earlier in August, John Farnham lost his long-time friend and fellow musician Olivia-Newton John to breast cancer at the age of 73.
