Police have confirmed that believed Queensland murder victim, Scott Cabrie, 47, was working as an Uber driver when he was allegedly murdered by two teenage passengers on the Fraser Coast.
Police found the body of Cabrie near a boat ramp in Howard, a small town roughly four hours to the north of Brisbane.
Cabrie was last seen on February 6 leaving his home in Toogoom, 20 minutes from Howard. He was reported missing last Friday, 10 February.
His car, a blue Nissan X-Trail, was found burnt out in Pacific Haven on 7 February.
“[Cabrie] received a fare and subsequently collected a number of people,” said Detective Acting Superintendent Darrin Shadlow.
“Police believe there were three people that were picked up, and two of those people have been charged with the murder.”
Superintendent Shadlow described the situation as “tragic”, and the impact it would have on the community.
“It affects obviously his immediate family and friends, but also the wider Hervey Bay community.
“It’s shocking to have any sort of violent crime of this nature, but for a 17- and 18-year-old [to be charged], yes it probably does bring another level to it.”
Two teenage males, 17- and 18-year-old, have been charged with murder over regarding Cabrie’s death.
The 17-year-old was arrested at a Pacific Haven address. He has been charged with murder, arson, robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and deprivation of liberty.
He is expected to appear before the Hervey Bay Children’s Court today.
The 18-year-old is a Sunshine Acres man, and was arrested at a Harvey Bay address. He has been charged with murder, arson, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and deprivation of liberty.
He appeared before the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday via video link. His matter has been adjourned until 20 April. He has not applied for bail.
Queensland Police are continuing their investigation into the Queensland murder.
They are appealing for any witnesses or those that may have dashcam footage of Cabrie’s blue 2017 Nissan X-Trail with Queensland registration 675YVF, on Torbanlea Pialba Road between 11pm and midnight on Monday, 6 February to come forward to police — or to provide information via Policelink online or by calling 131 444.
