Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has opened up about a bicycle crash that he was “very lucky” to have survived and stresses helmet safety.
The TV British star took to social media on Sunday morning to talk about the “very bad” bike accident he had been in while in the US last week.
In the video clip, Ramsay raised his shirt to reveal the massive bruise he sustained in his accident and stressed the need to wear a helmet.
Fans have pointed out that Ramsay’s left arm was visibly trembling throughout the entire video.
An important #FathersDay message from me…WEAR A HELMET ! This week I had a bad accident while riding my bike in CT. I’m doing ok and I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at @LMHospital who looked after me but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Be Safe pic.twitter.com/UMjaoXGpkc

“This week unfortunately I had a really bad accident, and it really shook me. Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he said.
“Those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses, who looked after me this week, they were amazing but honestly you’ve got to wear a helmet.
“I don’t care how short the journey is, I don’t care [about] the fact that these helmets cost money, but they’re crucial. Even with the kids, or a short journey.”
Ramsay also shared a before-and-after photo of his damaged helmet and gear to demonstrate the importance of bike safety.
“I am lucky to be standing here. I am in pain. It has been a brutal week, and I’m sort of getting through it,” he said.
“Have a great Father’s Day and be safe,” he concluded his message.
Ramsay clarified that he had escaped more serious and severe injuries due to having had a helmet on.
The 57-year-old world renowned chef runs 58 restaurants around the world and spends his time outside the kitchen enjoying cycling triathlons and Ironman races.
He finished an Ironman in 2013 and in 2015 — a race regarded as the most challenging cycling athletic competition in the world.
He is also mostly popular for hosting reality TV shows MasterChef, Hell’s Kitchen, and his most recent series Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars.
