The former couple are the only Aussies heading into Wimbledon Singles Quarter-final after other hopefuls couldn’t make it past the previous rounds.
Nick Kyrgios beat out American Brandon Nakashima after a three-hour game, beating his opponent three sets to two. He now heads to the Quarter-final where he’ll face off against Chilean Cristian Garin, who beat fellow Australian Alex de Minaur in the Round of 16.
In an earlier match, Kyrgios and Grecian Stefanos Tsitsipas were both fined for offences committed during their match.
“I always get fined, so I’m very keen to see what he will get after today,” said Kyrgios of Tsitsipas, who received a $14,000 fine for hitting a ball into the crowd.
Ajla Tomlijanovic was successful in her match against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, winning two sets to one. She’ll be meeting Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in the next round with the match set to kick off sometime Wednesday.
Tomlijanovic dedicated her latest win to her Nana saying on Instagram she “would have been 82 today” and “[I] hope you were watching; this one was for you”.
Women’s Doubles has proven to be a better playing field with Australian Ellen Perez headed in the Quarter final with her American teammate Nicole Melichar.
Mixed Doubles will see Matthew Ebden and Samantha Stosur face off against British duo Jonny O’Mara and Alicia Barnet while Ebden will also team up with fellow Aussie Max Purcell in the Men’s Doubles Quarter-final for a spot in the semi.
Although there are still hopes for an Australian to claim a Wimbledon title, many did bow out.
Wild card Daria Saville and Women’s Singles competitors Jaimee Fourlis, Zoe Hives, Astra Sharma and Maddison Inglis didn’t manage to make it past the first round with the likes of Men’s Singles players James Duckworth, John Millman and Alexei Popyrin joining them.
In the second round Thanasi Kokkinakis was unsuccessful in his campaign against World No.1 Novak Djokovic along with Jordan Thompson who also lost his match.
Alex de Minaur and Jason Kubler ended their Wimbledon hopes in the third round.
