The Foo Fighters have announced an Australian tour beginning in late November 2023.
The tour comes on the heels of the band’s announcement in May of their replacement drummer Josh Freese, after previous drummer Taylor Hawkins died suddenly in March 2022.
Hawkins was 50 years old when he was found dead in a Columbian Hotel — he was meant to play a concert with the band later that evening.
The Foo Fighters were last in Australia in early March last year. It would be one of their last with Hawkins.
Lead singer, David Grohl described Hawkins as his “spirit animal” and “best friend”.
Grohl would be faced with further grief after his mother passed away last August.
The losses have influenced the band’s 11th studio album, But Here We Are which released late last week.
It has been noted as significant due to the deaths of Grohl’s loved ones, and resulted in one of the band’s most critically acclaimed albums.
As such, there is substantial anticipation regarding the Foo Fighters’ tour, both in Australia and internationally.
Replacement drummer Freese comes with significant experience, with Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, and even Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus among the many musical heavyweights to collaborate with him.
The Australian tour dates include Australian support acts such as The Chats, Teenage Joan, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, along with the English band, Hot Milk.
