It was announced back in March that the much beloved Australian TV soap Neighbours would finish this year and one of its most famous alumni is making her way back.
At the beginning of the month, Neighbours confirmed that Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan would be reunited on Ramsay street for the shows last ever episode.
“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple, and it would not feel right to end the show without them. We are thrilled Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our final series,” their official Twitter account said.
With Neighbours Executive Producer Jason Herbison adding “it has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers”.
Kylie made the return and filmed the episode which she described as “emotional”.
“It was lovely and emotional. Driving into Ramsay Street was quite something,” she told the Today show.
“Firstly, where has all that time gone? Secondly everything looks exactly the same. Thirdly, Scott, Charlene, Jayne, Harold, it all just came flooding back.
“There was a lot of talking about memories and going back in time.”
Although she did admit she had been hesitant about making a return saying she didn’t know if it would make sense so many years on.
Neighbours has been on the air for 37 years and has produced over 9000 episodes. It’s been the platform that launched the careers of some of Australia’s and the world’s most famous entertainers, including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, and Natalie Imbruglia.
The show has been cancelled because of a lack of funding from UK broadcaster Channel 5, despite getting over 1.4 million views per episode from UK audiences alone.
Neighbours final episode is to air sometime in September.
