A Brisbane man has been arrested for being in possession of child exploitation material said Queensland Police.
The 51-year-old was arrested with one count each of possessing child exploitation material and use of a carriage service for child abuse material.
Police made the arrest on Wednesday September 7 after being granted a search warrant for a property in Lawnton.
Officers will allege that the man was found in possession of child exploitation material and material that related to abuse of children.
He was taken into custody and will appear in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on November 14.
The arrest comes under Queensland Police’ operation Argos which has undercover officers working online to detect internet users who are engaged with such material.
Investigators say that more warrants were carried out.
“In addition to the arrest of a 51-year-old man on Wednesday, Argos investigators executed a number of separate search warrants on people engaged in the alleged possession and distribution of child exploitation material. Investigations, including digital evidence examinations, are continuing.
The arrests come a week after Child Protection Week with QPS saying that “protecting children is everybody’s business”.
They detailed that children can be vulnerable online and urged parents, carers and others to take steps to ensure that they are safe online.
“Research by the Commonwealth eSafety Commissioner has identified that 1 in 4 children have been approached by a stranger online. This is extremely concerning and highlights the need for parents to be aware of their child’s online footprint and to speak with their child about online safety.
“Supervision is the key to prevention, as is ongoing communication with children about how to stay safe online and the dangers of having online ‘friends’ they have never met face-to-face.
