News Cop is one of only a few news media organisations registered with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) as an eligible news business.
Eligibility criteria to be registered includes declaring that the news media organisation is:
- not owned or controlled by a political or advocacy organisation (such as a political party, lobby group or a union)
- not owned or controlled by a party that has a commercial interest in the coverage being produced.
Many news media organisations are not yet registered with the Australian Communications and Media Authority.
